DP 2 - Pen in the Style of
Jeff Koons

Final Product

The purpose of this project was to design two "pens" in the style of two different design movements, individual designers, or manufacturers. By researching the unique elements of these designers and imitating them in our illustrations and final models, we gained an appreciation for these designers' styles.

Examples of Koons' style

Jeff Koons is a contemporary post-pop American artist who is known for his kitsch imagery. His “statuary” series consists of large-scale blowups of toys such as Balloon Dog – a hollow steel statue based on balloons twisted into shape to make a toy dog. His controversial “Made in Heaven” series consists of paintings, photos, and sculptures depicting Koons and his wife, porn star Ilona Staller, in sexually explicit positions.

This marker in the style of Jeff Koons emphasizes the elements of fantasy and irony that are central to Koons’ work. It combines a kitschy phallic icon reminiscent of Koons’ “Heaven” series with the design language of a balloon animal. The light weight of the marker contradicts its large size and metallic appearance. The tip of the balloon can be removed to reveal a surprisingly bold silver marker.
