1
Problem Definition

Decided to design and build a device for my roommate Britton, an above-knee amputee, who has difficulty rock-climbing with his standard prosthesis.

2
Analysis and Research

Observed Britt climbing with his standard leg, researched prosthetic devices, researched materials, and talked with experts.

3
Ideation and Exploration

Explored a wide variety of leg and foot designs. Sketched possible designs, then constructed and tested rapid prototypes out of wood.

4
Selection and Refinement

Chose the Eagle Claw and modeled this design with SolidWorks. Created and tested multiple aluminum prototypes to help refine this design.

5
Implementation

Machined the Eagle Claw from aluminum plate, built fixtures, bent the toes, finished the leg and foot, and attached rubber toes.

7
Evaluation

Field tested the final model, observing its strengths and weaknesses. Generated ideas for future versions of the Eagle Claw.
